The seeds of Afghan Hash Plant Regular were selected from strains collected in the 1970s in the Mazari Sharif region. It is a very traditional family line that has been used for hashish production in the region for perhaps centuries. Barney's Farm continued to breed a traditional version of it over the years.
This pure Afghani strain is of course pure 'indica' in genotype, which is reflected in its bushy growth style, broad leaves and brisk pace. The nose is traditionally hashish with a touch of zesty citrus, aromatic sandalwood and pungent floral notes.
Commercial hybrid production has displaced more traditional, pure strains, and the preservation of different heirloom strains and landrace varieties through collection is important to maintain genetic diversity. In a market saturated with feminised seeds, the conservation of male genetics is also important for species diversity and vitality.
